The World Health Organization (WHO) held a news conference in Geneva on the coronavirus pandemic. The WHO director-general emphasized the need for countries to suppress and control the virus during lockdown periods. He also talked about President Trump’s coronavirus response efforts saying the president showed “political commitment” and “leadership.” Other topics addressed included the postponement of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as well as response efforts in Africa, India and Europe. Shortly before the briefing, the United Nations announced the launch of a $2 billion global humanitarian response plan to combat coronavirus. close
