In a video address from his home in Burlington, Vermont, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) announced he was suspending his campaign for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination. He said after assessing his campaign’s future with his wife and campaign aides, there was no path to victory. Additionally, he said in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, he did not want to continue a campaign that had no chance of winning. Instead, he told supporters he wanted to keep amassing delegates to help bolster his campaign’s case for progressive policies at the Democrats' national convention later in the year. close
