Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D) provided an update on the state’s coronavirus death toll and positive cases as well as policy actions taken to tackle the pandemic. The governor discussed several topics, including the need for medical supplies and medications, the increase in unemployment claims in the state, adherence to virus mitigation guidelines, and the formation of the Michigan Coronavirus Task Force on Racial Disparities, which will look at how to address racial disparities and health care needs in the most impacted communities. Governor Whitmer also announced several new state executive orders, including extending the social distancing guidelines through April 30 and prohibiting all public and private gatherings, regardless of size. close
