New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) held a briefing in Albany on the state’s response to the coronavirus pandemic. The governor refuted President Trump’s claim the previous day that he has “total” authority to lift state restrictions imposed by governors. “That is not an accurate statement in my opinion,” he said. “The president is clearly spoiling for a fight on this issue. The worst thing we can do in all of this is start with political division and start with partisanship.” Governor Cuomo said the states needed to work with the federal government to reopen the country but warned against undercutting the progress that had been made. The governor also provided an update on the total hospitalizations and deaths in the state, which he said continued to indicate that New York was at its apex. close
