World Health Organization (WHO) officials held a briefing in Geneva, Switzerland, on the coronavirus pandemic. The WHO director-general responded to President Trump’s decision to halt funding to his organization by saying, “The United States of America has been a long-standing and generous friend to WHO and we hope it will continue to be so. We regret the decision of the president of the United States to order a halt in funding to the World Health Organization.” In addition, the director-general said the WHO is reviewing the impact on its work of any withdrawal of U.S. funding and will coordinate with partners to fill any financial gaps to ensure their work “continues uninterrupted.” Also participating in the briefing was WHO Principal Legal Officer Steven Solomon. This is a 25-minute portion of the event. close
