Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) held a news conference on the state’s response to the coronavirus pandemic. At the start, he unveiled his plans for opening the state’s economy. “In opening Texas, we must be guided by data and by doctors. We must put health and safety first,” he emphasized. He announced several executive orders related to reopening the economy, including allowing for product pickup at retail stores, allowing for a limited amount of nonessential surgeries, and opening state parks with certain restrictions. The governor also provided an update on the educational system saying all public and private schools along with higher education institutions would be closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 term. close
