President Trump with Coronavirus Task Force Briefing

President Trump and members of the White House Coronavirus Task Force held a briefing on the federal government’s response to the pandemic. When asked about Georgia Governor Brian Kemp’s (R) plan to reopen parts of the state economy in the coming days, the president responded, “I’m not happy about it and I’m not happy about Brian Kemp.” He said he voiced his opinion with the governor but was leaving it to each state to decide how to reopen. He also said his administration may extend its social distancing guidelines until early in the summer or later. Acting Homeland Security Undersecretary for Science and Technology William Bryan spoke about his lab’s research on the resiliency of the virus, saying that sunlight, warm temperatures, and high humidity seemed to diminish the virus and that disinfectants and chemicals were effective in killing it. The president was also asked about reports that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un may be experiencing serious health problems. close
