New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy (D) held a briefing in Trenton on the state’s response to the coronavirus pandemic. He announced the state had 3,047 new positive cases over the previous 24 hours, pushing the state past 100,000 total cases. The governor said while the three-day moving average of hospitalizations appeared to be declining, some counties in the state were “backsliding” in their rates of infection. He said the state needed to see more progress before he would consider relaxing any of the social distancing orders. The governor announced an executive order allowing renters to use their security deposits to pay their rent. He also called on the federal government to provide immediate financial aid to the states and said he supported a proposal by Senators Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and Bill Cassidy (R-LA) that would provide $500 billion in direct cash for state governments. close
