At the center of the case was a 2003 federal law prohibiting federal aid to fight AIDS/HIV to private groups without policies opposing prostitution and sex trafficking, specifically Delaware-based Alliance for Open Society International. In 2013, the Court ruled that this requirement violated the First Amendment’s free speech and expression.
