For a fifth day, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments via teleconference due to the coronavirus pandemic. Trump v. Vance concerns a local government’s efforts to get copies of President Trump’s financial records and whether presidents have immunity from a subpoena for their finances unrelated to presidential duties. The New York County District Attorney’s Office was seeking the information, including the president’s tax returns, as part of its investigation into alleged misconduct by the Trump Organization. On July 9, 2020, the Supreme Court ruled 7-2 that the New York district attorney can obtain President Trump’s financial records. close
