John Barry, author of The Great Influenza: The Story of the Deadliest Pandemic in History, talked about some of the lessons from the 1918 flu outbreak for lawmakers as they deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. Topics included subsequent waves of infection that followed the initial spread of the Spanish flu virus. Mr. Barry also answered questions from viewers.

Politico’s David Lin talked about Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee Chair Lamar Alexander (R-TN) self-quarantining as a result of exposure to a staffer who tested positive for the virus that causes COVID-19, and how it would impact the committee that was set to hear testimony from National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci.

Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD) spoke about the impact of COVID-19 on Maryland as his state began to ease restrictions on businesses and citizen movement. He also discussed ongoing negotiations for another round of legislation to address the pandemic. close
