West Virginia Governor Jim Justice (R ) held a virtual news conference on the state’s response to the coronavirus pandemic. He announced the state’s first inmate and corrections officer had tested positive for COVID-19. In response, he said the state would test all inmates and staff in the area where the prisoner was housed, and he hopes to expand testing to all inmates at the facility. In addition, despite a relatively low positive test rate in West Virginia in comparison to Mid-Atlantic states, Governor Justice warned that people must remain cautious as they prepare for Memorial Day and the unofficial beginning of summer. close
