He announced that the U.K. would put in place a contact tracing program by June 1 that would be able to track 10,000 new cases a day. When pressed by Labour Party Leader Keir Starmer on whether the system would be up and running by June, the prime minister said, “we have growing confidence that we will have a test, track and trace operation that will be world-beating and yes, it will be in place by June 1.”
