Health and Human Services Principal Deputy Inspector General Christi Grimm participated in a briefing on the coronavirus federal response with members of the House Oversight and Reform Committee. She defended and stressed the importance of an inspector general’s independence with investigations. “We follow the facts wherever they lead” and “we are impartial in what we do,” she said. Ms. Grimm served as the acting inspector general until early May 2020 when President Trump announced a new appointee. She also spoke about some of the work her department was doing to review the its response to the pandemic, including an April survey that found some weaknesses among the nation’s hospitals with regard to shortages of personal protective equipment and COVID-19 tests. More than 300 hospitals from across the nation participated. close
