Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell discussed the U.S. economy and his agency’s response to the coronavirus pandemic at a virtual event hosted by Princeton University. He announced the central bank was “days away” from making the first loans to small and medium-sized businesses as part of its Mains Street Lending Program. In addition, Chair Powell said the central bank “crossed red lines” to help the economy during the pandemic. close
