Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert Wilkie testified at a Senate Veterans Affairs Committee hearing on the president’s proposed budget for fiscal year 2021. They discussed several topics, including hiring goals for the future, homeless veterans, mental health, and health care innovation, such as the use of telehealth in order to better serve rural communities. Primarily, much of the focus was on the coronavirus pandemic and how it has impacted the budget needs for Veterans Affairs. Secretary Wilkie said they are working towards building up their stockpile of medical supplies and equipment so they are prepared for a possible second wave of the coronavirus. close
