New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) held a briefing in Albany to address the protests around the country following George Floyd’s death, as well as the state’s coronavirus response efforts. The governor announced that New York will begin phase one of reopening the state, proclaiming, “we didn’t flatten the curve, we bent the curve.” Included in phase one of reopening were construction, manufacturing, and curbside pick-up, as well as permissions given to commercial buildings to take the temperatures of all people who entered their facilities. Governor Cuomo also discussed the protests in the state, saying they were primarily peaceful and that he had proposed police reform legislation because “we have a moment here where we can make change.” close
