The governor announced that though there would be changes to the state’s “safe return” order for reopening, he stressed that “these changes should not be taken as a signal that the risk of COVID-19 is gone. COVID-19 is still here.” Governor Reeves said the “numbers are not declining,” pointing to Memorial Day weekend and the recent protests around the state for racial justice as key reasons for the lack of decline in numbers. As for the changes to the “safe return” order, he announced that curfews will be lifted for bars and restaurants that serve alcohol as long as they abide by social distancing guidelines, and the allowed capacity will be increased for fitness centers, reception halls and sports venues.
