Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) spoke about police reform and encouraged the Senate to take up Democratic legislation to address the issue. Then, Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) spoke about the nationwide protests in reaction to the killing of George Floyd while in custody of Minneapolis police, and the need for real law enforcement reform. Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA) also spoke about police reform and encouraged the Senate to consider the Democratic proposal. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) questioned Senator Harris about previous attempts to outlaw lynching. Senator Harris also announced that she and other Democratic senators would vote against proceeding to the Republican bill. She was followed by Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), who continued the discussion on police reform and also touted the Democratic bill. Lastly, Senator Mazie Hirono (D-HI) spoke about Pride Month. close
