House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) spoke to reporters in the Capitol following a meeting with Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows on additional coronavirus relief legislation. The Democratic leaders said the Republican proposal did not provide enough aid for workers, the unemployed, and state and local governments, among other facets of the bill with which they disagreed. Speaker Pelosi called the proposal “pathetic” while Senator Schumer said he was frustrated by the process. The leaders said they would continue negotiating with the White House and Senate Republicans but did not agree to any specific timeline. close
