Archivist Craig Wright talked about a fall 1921 road trip that future first lady Lou Hoover took with her newly widowed father -- traveling from California to Washington, D.C., long before there was an interstate highway system. Her father documented the September 12 to October 16 trip down to how much they spent on gas. His four page summary is in the collection of the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum, and is quoted during this talk. The Hoover Presidential Foundation provided this video. close
