President Donald Trump was briefed at the Federal Emergency Management Agency headquarters in Washington, D.C. on the damage caused along the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Laura made landfall as a category four storm. Representatives from FEMA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and Homeland Security provided updates on damage in southwestern Louisiana and predicted further damage as the hurricane moved inland. When asked about touring some of the worst hit sites, President Trump said he was “prepared to postpone” his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention, but was planning to tour the damage Saturday or Sunday. close
