President Trump held a briefing in Orange County, Texas, amid the aftermath of Hurricane Laura. He spoke about the federal response to the storm and congratulated Governor Abbott for his efforts in mitigating the coronavirus pandemic. The president was asked about the recent news that Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe was no longer providing election security briefings to Congress. White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows replied that information had been leaked to the press from previous briefings, so withholding them was a way to contain classified information. The president echoed the remarks of Meadows, adding that there are “leakers on the committee, obviously--leakers that are doing bad things.” close
