FBI Director Christopher Wray testified at a House Homeland Security Committee hearing on global threats to the nation. Mr. Wray said Russian interference in U.S. elections continued, but the methods are different from 2016. He added that the intelligence community had seen active efforts by Russia through use of social media and online journals as well as other methods to bolster divide and discord among the public. He also outlined changes to agency has methods to combat election interference, including working with such social media companies as Facebook to remove bots and fake accounts trying to spread misinformation. Other topics included homegrown terrorism and online radicalization and COVID-19 fraud. Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf was scheduled to testify but according to Committee Chair Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS), Mr. Wolf declined because he was President Trump’s nominee for secretary of the agency. close
