Senate Republican leaders spoke to reporters on Capitol Hill after their weekly caucus luncheon. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) declined to comment on a Washington Post report that President Trump downplayed the seriousness of the coronavirus pandemic. Also, Senator McConnell said he expected to hold a vote for legislation related to COVID-19 relief the next day. He said the bill provides targeted funding to reopening schools, small businesses, and health care for those impacted by the coronavirus. Lastly, his colleagues criticized House Democrats for passing a $3 trillion bill and said they hoped Democrats would continue to negotiate on a coronavirus relief bill. close
