Members of the House of Representatives took part in a moment of silence on the steps of the U.S. Capitol to mark the 19th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. On that day, al-Qaida terrorists took control of four commercial airplanes, using them to kill nearly 3,000 people in the U.S. The first plane struck the World Trade Center’s North Tower at 8:46 a.m. Eastern Time. Lawmakers walked down the Capitol steps at that precise time.
