Mr. Maher was subpoenaed to testify about a whistleblower reported that the Trump administration was changing intelligence reports to make the administration in order to implement its policy. The complaint was filed by Mr. Maher’s predecessor, Brian Murphy, who alleged that political appointees sought to downplay intelligence involving Russian election interference and white supremacist violence. Following the open session, the committee moved to a secure location to conduct the classified portion of the hearing.
