Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey testified on social media content moderation before the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee. Republicans on the committee largely accused the social media companies of censoring conservative viewpoints, while Democrats urged the tech CEOs to do more to stop the spread of misinformation and content that could incite violence. Many committee members focused on Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which shields social media companies from liability for content posted on their sites and affords them wide latitude in content moderation. This is the first portion of the hearing, before the committee took a short recess. close
