The Council on Foreign Relations hosted a virtual event with members of their independent task force on preparing for the next pandemic to discuss their recently launched report on the global response to COVID-19 and how best to prepare for future pandemics. They discussed several topics, including how COVID-19 became a pandemic, the World Health Organization, global health disparities, and the need for global, civic, and private partnerships. Among the participants were former Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell (Obama Administration, 2014-17) and Frances Townsend, former Homeland Security Adviser (G.W. Bush Administration, 2004-08). close
