Representatives Charles Wilson (D-TX), Paul McHale (D-PA), and Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) responded to questions from reporters after a meeting of the House Democratic Caucus with President Bill Clinton in the House chamber. The House members explained why they were changing their position on the president’s budget from their “no” votes on the initial House bill to “yes” for the House and Senate compromise bill. They spoke immediately after President Clinton left the news conference. House Speaker Tom Foley (D-WA) briefly responded to questions from reporters to end the news conference. close
