In an excerpt from the session of the U.S. House of Representatives, members debated the President’s budget program. Supporters of the President’s budget spoke about the necessity for moving away from the economics of the 1980's and reduce the deficit. Opponents of the plan claimed the budget would raise taxes on all Americans without permanently reducing the federal deficit. The House passed the plan in a vote of 218 to 216, precisely the number of votes needed to pass the bill. close
