Captain Michael Doubleday and Marine Corp Commandant General Carl Mundy briefed reporters on issues relating to the U.S. military, including the recent disagreement over a U.S. Marine Corps policy concerning Marines and marriage. The policy, issued by Commandant Mundy then withdrawn by Secretary of Defense Les Aspin, discouraged Marines from marrying. The commandant outlined his intent on issuing the policy on the grounds that many Marines were marrying young and subsequently divorcing young as well. Captain Doubleday discussed current U.S. defense policy in the former Yugoslavia and answered reporters' questions. close
