President-elect of Nigeria Moshood Abiola talked with reporters about the political situation in his native Nigeria, where he

was prevented from serving as president when a military coup occurred following the election. He said the population of Nigeria was undertaking a general strike in protest of the defeat of democracy represented by the military coup. Representative Willaim Jefferson (D-Louisiana) introduced the African leader, saying Chief Abiola held the full support of the Congressional Black Caucus. Chief Abiola responded to reporters' questions. close
