President-elect Abiola talked with reporters about the political situation in his native Nigeria, where he

was prevented from serving as president when a military coup occurred

following the election. He said the population of Nigeria is

undertaking a general strike in protest of the defeat of democracy

represented by the military coup. Rep. Jefferson introduced the

African leader, saying Chief Abiola held the full support of the

Congressional Black Caucus. Chief Abiola responded to reporters' questions. close
