Mr. Perot and a number of House members spoke in a news conference to announce the introduction of a resolution to make the signatures on House discharge petitions public. The speakers claimed the secrecy of signatures on House discharge petitions allows members to support a bill in public but prevent its passage in private by not signing a discharge petition to bring bills on the floor. The speakers spoke at a podium surrounded by a large crowd of House members. Rep. Inhofe read the names of members of the House who added their names in support of the resolution, and members who withdrew their support. close
