Mr. Hoggart is interviewed concerning the nature, role, and function of the British House of Lords. He explains various positions within the House and notes its politeness as a body as compared to the House of Commons and gives insight to the types of people who make up its membership. Actual footage of a session is then shown. Specifically, it shows question time, a period when government representives are queried by House members concerning current issues. Alcohol abuse among youth and elderly care are addressed. Hoggart then examines how the British people view the House of Lords. Additional footage is then shown of debate from the chamber floor dealing with the taxation of charities. Hoggart then discusses the overall effects of televising the House of Lords and the proposed broadcasting from the House of Commons. close
