The Senate Commerce Subcommittee on Security held a hearing on the U.S. Coast Guard safeguarding national interests in the Arctic. U.S. Coast Guard Vice Commandant Admiral Charles Ray discussed what is needed to strengthen the Coast Guard’s presence in the Arctic, including consistent funding and more ships added to the fleet. He also discussed Russia and China’s growing power in the Arctic region.
