Labor Secretary Eugene Scalia took part in an American Enterprise Institute virtual discussion on the federal government’s role in providing unemployment benefits to workers, and difficulties states had in implementing the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). The PPP was passed by Congress to provide economic relief to small businesses and certain other entities that were adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Secretary Scalia also said he was leery of making stimulus proposals permanent because they encourage some people not to work. close
