Nathaniel Philbrick talked about his book, In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex, which details the sinking of the Essex in the Pacific Ocean following a destructive attack by a sperm whale. The author also recounted the fate of the ship’s crew as they spent three months in vain trying to reach mainland South America before being rescued.
