Representatives Maria Elvira Salazar (FL), Ashley Hinson (IA), and Scott Fitzgerald (WI), all Republican freshman members of the 117th Congress who worked as journalists before running for office, talked about what brought them to Congress and the life experiences and influences that have shaped them. In the weeks since taking their oath on January 3rd, 2021, these three along with more than 60 other new members of Congress, were a part of history. Their first few weeks included debating challenges to Electoral College votes, surviving an attack on the U.S. Capitol, and voting on whether to impeach President Donald Trump.
