The president vetoed the measure because it did not include a repeal of Section 230 protections for social media platforms, and because it removed names of Confederate leaders from U.S. military installations. Democrats continued to push for a vote on the president’s request to increase coronavirus pandemic stimulus checks from $600 to $2,000. Republicans again blocked those efforts, insisting that any bill that increases the stimulus must also include the Section 230 repeal and language that would allow for election investigations. Democrats refused to consider a combined bill.
