Following the adjournment of a joint session to count Electoral College ballots for president and vice president in the 2020 election, viewers commented on the events of the day. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were confirmed as the winners with 306 electoral votes. Donald Trump and Mike Pence received 232 electoral votes. Earlier in the day, protesters who attended a rally of President Trump supporters disputing the outcome of the 2020 presidential election attacked the U.S. Capitol, and the building was subsequently locked down. The rally took place before and as members of Congress met to count Electoral College ballots for president and vice president in the 2020 election. The demonstrators reached the second-floor lobby just outside the Senate chamber, as law enforcement officers placed themselves in front of the chamber doors, and later entered the Senate chambers. close
