Acting U.S. Attorney Michael Sherwin and FBI Washington Field Office Assistant Director Steven D’Antuono held a briefing on charges related to the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. Mr. D’Antuono discussed the FBI intelligence gathering and sharing with other law enforcement agencies as they work to arrest people across the country for participation in the attack. Mr. Sherwin outlined the scope of charges the Justice Department was considering filing against individuals such as, “felony cases tied to sedition and conspiracy,” which could lead to up to 20 years in prison. He later added, “we’re looking at and treating this just like a significant international counterterrorism or counterintelligence operation.” close
