Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) held a briefing one week after the attack at the U.S. Capitol during certification of the Electoral College vote. Mayor Bowser provided an update on security preparations surrounding Inauguration Day. She was joined by D.C. Acting Police Chief Robert Contee who said the National Guard plans to have at least 20,000 troops in D.C. for the inauguration. Also attending the briefing was D.C. Health Director Dr. LaQuandra Nesbitt, who provided an update on COVID-19 response and vaccine distribution efforts. close
