The December 7, 1941, Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor remains a “day that will live in infamy” to most Americans, but less well known is the devastating air attack just hours later on U.S. forces in the Philippines under the command of General Douglas MacArthur. James Zobel of the MacArthur Memorial detailed the events of that day, which shattered U.S. air power and set the stage for a complete U.S. surrender in the Philippines six months later.
