President Biden spoke about his administration’s efforts to promote racial equity policies across the federal government. He spoke about the death of George Floyd while in the custody of Minneapolis police and the nationwide protests that followed, which he said “marked a turning point in this country’s attitude toward racial justice.” The president signed a number of executive actions aimed at boosting racial equity in housing, combating xenophobia, ensuring tribal community access to Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) assistance, and directing the Justice Department to not renew contracts with private prisons. close
