Brigadier General Paul Friedrichs, who serves as the Joint Chiefs of Staff Surgeon, stressed that vaccinations were “voluntary.” Following their remarks, Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby fielded questions from reporters on a range of defense issues, including the state of negotiations with the Taliban, the future of U.S. troop presence in Germany, and understanding the scope and severity of domestic extremist views in the military.
