Representative Jeffries called on Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to remove freshman Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) from her committee assignments over a number of controversial comments she had made prior to taking office. “Kevin McCarthy should handle this problem because Marjorie Taylor Greene is totally out of control,” he said. The caucus chair warned if the Republican leader did not remove her from the committees, the House would vote on her removal the following day, as Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) had announced in a statement shortly before the start of the news conference. The Democratic leaders also spoke about their caucus’s phone call earlier with President Biden on the legislative agenda, which is topped by their desire to pass a nearly $2 trillion coronavirus pandemic relief bill.
