Day 2 of former President Trump’s impeachment trial for incitement of insurrection continued with Delegate Stacey Plaskett’s (D-Virgin Islands) description of the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. She played several video and audio clips, including the rioters breaking through the outer barricade and the moment the breached the Capitol, Officer Eugene Goodman warning Senator Mitt Romney to run, the rioters calling out for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi as they roamed the building, audio communications between Capitol Police officers, and Speaker Pelosi’s staff members' whispered phone call as they hid in an office. Representative Eric Swalwell (D-CA) remarked on the breach of the Capitol and attacks on police officers. He played several video clips as well, including one of the rioters being shot, senators running down the hall to escape, former Vice President Pence being escorted from the House chamber, and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer escaping down a back hallway. close
