Senator Riegle said “all my children need more from me” in remarks announcing his retirement on the Senate floor. In addition, he stated that the recent death of his father reminded him of the life he led while his father was serving in Congress. These reasons, among others, encouraged him not to pursue re-election at the end of his current term, which expires in January 1995. Following his remarks, other senators arose to honor the service of Senator Riegle. close
