Representatives from the Joint Chiefs of Staff, National Guard and the DOD’s Homeland Defense Department spoke about how the military was working in conjunction with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to more quickly distribute coronavirus vaccines to civilians and members of the military. They also addressed a variety of questions related to mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations and vaccine hesitancy, health care coverage for military members during the pandemic, training and retention, and the use of the Defense Production Act during the coronavirus pandemic. Several lawmakers also inquired about the National Guard force around the Capitol following the attack on January 6.
